which laptop should i buy? i've been looking at laptops lately at targets online store mostly but it's confusing theres all these deferent types so please help me i just wan't a computer that i can store all my music and videos, i want it to not be slow i don't mind if its a little just not super slow, i want one where the internet works good, usb port[s], a microphone and earphones jack, also i wan't to edit and create cartoon videos on it, dvd/cd drive optinal, not super small in size but if thats all you can find ok, oh and a price range of up to $300 ,maybe $325 but thats really pushing it .any color but pink Wow, that is quite a tall order. I suggest waiting and to save your money until you can afford a machine that can do what you need. The $200 to $300 net books you can afford will have almost no screen to work with, slower processors (usually intel atom processor line), and will definitely not offer you the experience you seem to be describing. When you have at least $500 saved up, start looking at used machines in good condition around 2 gigahertz (2,000 megahertz) or so with large hard drives at or above 100 gigabytes, about 1 gigabyte of RAM, and if you will be using it for most everything at least a 14" screen.. I suggest windows XP as your operating system. (Alternatively, the Linux distribution called Ubuntu is free and will do everything you have indicated on most machines assuming you download the right software for the tasks.) Where can you find these lovely machines for $500 or less... Try http://craigslist.org in your area or http://ebay.com. I had a very good experience purchasing a Thinkpad from http://Overstock.com . I know what you're saying-- "But I want a brand new, shiny one..." I know you do, but it looks like you have Champagne taste and a Beer budget. I always choose function over form. I have purchased all my laptops second hand and only one machine looked like it had been used. Stay away from eMachines and HP/Compaq. The brands that seem to build somewhat sturdy machines are IBM/Lenovo, Gateway, Dell, and Acer. Sony VAIOs do not make the list because although very pretty and expensive as well as decent reliability, they just don't seem to have the same engineering forethought that their competitors do.
